CDM Co-ordination

Under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015, a Principal Designer must be appointed for most commercial construction projects.

The aim of the revised CDM 2015 regulations is to integrate health and safety into the management of any construction project from design concept onwards and result in a reduction of the number of incidents and accidents in the construction industry.

Companies undertaking notifiable projects are required to appoint a Principal Designer who will act as the Client’s key advisor on Health & Safety issues.

I&G have the expertise and knowledge in house to be able to work in conjunction with the appointed Principal Designer and manage all aspects of the CDM requirements incorporating the following aspects:

  • Draw up and issue the Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan and continually develop and adapt the plan throughout the duration of the scheme
  • Co-ordinate any design work, planning and other preparation for construction, with regard to health and safety
  • Identify hazards / risks and mitigate them from the scheme
  • Compile and distribute all project specific Method Statements / Risk Assessments / COSHH Assessments
  • Provide at handover the completed Operation & Maintenance File
  • Plan, manage and monitor the construction phase to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that it is carried out without risks to health or safety.
  • Ensure that there are adequate welfare facilities for those working on the site.
  • Draw up and implement the site rules as necessary.
  • Provide a suitable site induction and ensure that those working on site have received the training that they need to carry out the work safely and without risks to health
  • Ensure that there is co-operation between those working on the site, and that work is co-ordinated in such a way as to prevent danger
  • Ensure that there are suitable arrangements for effective consultation with the workforce.
  • Make sure that the right health and safety information is provided to the right people at the right time.

Significant benefits in the overall management of CDM Coordination are gained due to the in-house skills and experience I&G are able to present;

  • Efficiency of the Operations
  • Direct Communication Channels
