Scope of works
The scheme at Garforth Methodist Church compromised of the demolition of some existing buildings to facilitate the installation of a new link building, which enclosed a new meeting / social area and new unisex / disabled toilets.
The works consisted of:
- The demolition and strip out of 2 existing outbuildings that linked onto the existing church hall. This works was undertaken by a specialist team to ensure the safe removal of the building and the clearing of the existing basement area. Whilst this works was being undertaken, scaffolding was erected and the existing roof was fully overhauled and replaced with new slate lath, felt and welsh slates
- The Basement void was then filled with aggregate and compacted at specified levels
- A new concrete raft slab was laid which formed the new link extension
- New masonry works were undertaken to the existing gutterlines and filling in existing door openings
- Specialist Sika 1 rendering system was installed 1500mm high from finished floor level to oppose any apparent damp issues that the client had been suffering
- The new link extension had partition walls constructed to form the new rooms and mf ceilings were installed throughout, these in turn were finished in 2 coat plasterwork to ensure a smooth, clean finish.
- Three separate toilet facilities were installed which consisted of new sanitary ware, cubicles and IPS panels and boxings made by I&G Be-Spoke Joinery Division
- Finishes on the project included a real oak floating floor to the lobby area and the front of the building incorporated a floor to ceiling height glass curtain wall.
- An existing stained glass window was removed by our specialists and renovated to expose its original design and colours; this was re-instated in a light box as a feature to the building.
- Minor alterations were undertaken to the existing church hall and the existing toilets were stripped out and remodelled to a new meeting room.
